HITHER DITHER // Benjamin McVey
Steel and Concrete sculpture by Artist Benjamin McVey. The work is intended to be a memorial to 9/11, and to those who perished. Two high-back steel chairs (one per tower) represent the human figure, which are encased in the concrete. The words speak to our need to be present (hither), but also to our continuing state of uncertainty (dither), due to national and international political and financial issues since the tragedy. Each tower weighs about 2,000 lbs. It was important for the work to not only feel heavy through the subject matter, but also to be physically heavy.
