SITATUNGA // DAN POGUE
After many years of studying antelopes in Africa, I was inspired by their sleekness and agility. I was mostly inspired by the various shapes of their horns. I felt the Sitatunga had the most elegant horns of all. They are long and slender with subtle curves that are most appealing to the eye. Sitatunga was the first in a series called “Bright Shapes and Missing Pieces.” Shapes are cut out and removed to create an open design. When you look at the sculpture, you are seeing the patterns on the other side, like a kaleidoscope. The shapes and patterns seem to play off each other.
